Capture the elusive Christmas Spirit and bring it home for the holidays! Remember what it was like when you were a kid at Christmas time? When you were filled with that warm fuzzy Christmas feeling that seemed to penetrate the whole house? How did our parents do it? Was it the innocence of childhood or is there something more to it? Get started today and your home will be bursting at the seams with that old time Christmas feeling.

Practice acts of shopping kindness. Smile at people. Smile and say hello to the busy clerk behind the counter. Let them know you’re not just another impatient customer waiting in line. Smile at the harried mother with fussy young children. Let her know your not judging her parenting skills. Let that person with only one item go ahead of you at the cash register. It feels so good when they flash an appreciative thank you your way. Open doors for people. Smile at them. Let that car merge into your busy traffic lane. Wave a friendly hello. In a single shopping trip you will have given the gifts of patience, kindness, acceptance and courtesy. It’s free, it’s fun and the more you give the more you’ll get!

Get sentimental. Snuggle on the couch and watch the classics; ‘Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer’, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ and ‘A Christmas Story’. Share childhood stories of holidays’ past with your children. Tell them how scared you were of the Abominable Snowman when you were little. How you would squirm in your seat when he had Rudolph trapped in the cave! Listen to Bing Crosby sing ‘I’ll be home for Christmas’. Sing ‘Frosty the Snowman’ when you’re stuck in traffic and laugh at yourself. Surprise an old relative or friend with a phone call. Hang mistletoe. Stop and take notice of children all happy and excited in their holiday dresses.

Engage the senses. Make Christmas warm and fuzzy again. Sautee onions in a frying pan and then run out onto the front porch for a few moments. Step back in and enjoy the smell of home cooking! Play Christmas carols while you’re making dinner. Dance in the kitchen to ‘Little Drummer Boy’. Laugh. Flirt with your husband. Hug your kids. Hug the dog! Light those cinnamon scented candles you’ve been saving forever. Sit in the dark and stare at the Christmas tree lights. Make hot chocolate, spiced cider or eggnog.

Appreciate! Take the time to really appreciate all that you do have. Be thankful that you have a home to come home to, a warm bed to sleep in and food in the cupboard. Say a silent thank you for the loved ones in your life. Say thank you for good health, transportation, indoor plumbing, garbage service, family pets and your house plants that keep on living. Remind yourself that even the poorest people in America live better than many around the world. Take the time to acknowledge what a luxury your hot shower really is. Appreciate; really, really appreciate what you have right now, today! Give something, anything, big or small to charity. Be thankful you have it to give.

Take a lesson from the Grinch. He learned that the Christmas Spirit can’t be purchased, wrapped up and put in a box. It’s something that comes from within. It isn’t created with pretty decorations; it makes the decorations prettier. It isn’t created with ham and turkey dinner; it makes the ham and turkey taste better. It isn’t created by putting up the Christmas lights; it makes the lights shine brighter. Christmas Spirit is created in your heart. And it grows every time you express it with your love and appreciation. Practice giving it and you’ll discover what Dorothy from the ‘Wizard of Oz’ learned. What you were looking for was in your own backyard all along! Now you’re home is ready for the holidays. Merry Christmas!

Do you love Christmas decorations? Then don’t leave any area undecorated. Get ideas for Christmas decorating every area of your home, inside and out!

If you’re like most people, you don’t have much time left at the end of a busy day to do anything extra. But at this time of year, you want to do something to make your home look festive and special and create the wonderful Christmas holiday atmosphere.

You’ll find some ideas here for quick and simple ways to add a festive look to your home without spending a lot of time or money. And you’ll have time left over to really enjoy Christmas!

1st. Decorate Everything with Ribbons & Bows

Bows look festive and the ribbons you choose should tie together with the rest of your decorating. Choose ribbons in colors and patterns that coordinate with your decorating scheme.

Tie generous ribbons to chair backs, candlesticks, picks in plants, wreaths, garlands, basket handles, drapery tie-backs, stair railings, and doorknobs.

You don’t have to stick with red and green. Choose plaids or florals that tie in. If you can’t find anything that looks quite right, then choose metallic silver, gold, green, or red.

Choose a ribbon that you can untie and re-tie each year. This will save money in the long run, and you’ll end up with a good collection.

When the holidays are over, untie the ribbons and press them lightly. The bows won’t get crushed and the ribbons will be ready when you want to take them out the next year.

2nd. Turn Off Lamps

Arrange lots of candles on the dining table and dine by candlelight, even if you’re just having leftovers. Every meal will feel special.

Burn a fire in the fireplace each evening and encourage family members to gather around and read, do homework, write Christmas cards, or snooze.

Arrange pillar candles in your bathroom, on the sink or around the tub. Take time to soak and enjoy! If you have little children in your home, you should be very careful with candles around the house. Always have an adult in the room.

3rd. Put Wreathes or Swags on Every Doors

Put a wreath or swag on every door you have. Of course, start with the front door to welcome guests.

Go on to the back door, inside and out. Remember over the mantle, and in all your front windows. Don’t forget bedroom doors, inside and out.

Use real pine, holly, or grapevine, decorated with bows, berries, fruit, pinecones, raffia, ornaments, birds, photos, or candy.

4th. Use Holiday Tableware for Every Meal in December

Look through your cupboards and get out any dishes that look festive.

Discount stores often carry seconds of name brand porcelain, as well as fun designs that are not so common.

Start a set of holiday dishes with dinner plates that coordinate with your everyday dishes. Add new pieces each year, like salad plates and mugs.

Note: Be sure the pattern you select will be continued from year to year.

Buy 1 or 2 place settings each year. Before long, you’ll be able to serve a feast.

If you’re adventuresome, choose a different pattern and one place setting each year. Arrange the different dishes around the table and get lots of comments and rekindle memories. When they’re not in use, the dishes can be displayed around the room.

To keep wreaths year after year, buy artificial wreaths that will last. Remember, you’ll need room to store them!

When Christmas is over and it’s time to get back to basics, you might find these organization and storage tips helpful. Get your ornaments, wreaths, garlands, and other decorations organized for next year.

Other common Christmas decorations include plants such as mistletoe, holly, and poinsettias. Although church and state have been separated, many cities still sponsor secular decorations in their downtown areas such as banners and Christmas trees.

People in different parts of the world wait eagerly for Christmas and the preparations that go along with this special occasion. Christmas brings joy and happiness to all. You might be surprised to learn that in some homes, Christmas decorations stay up year-round to be a reminder of the festive spirit of Christmas all through the year.

In some countries the decorations for Christmas start being put up long before December and continue until well into the New Year. Every home is decorated delightfully for Christmas and this festive look is an essential part of the Christian tradition.

Preparations for Christmas are done mainly during the month of December. This task may make the month a bit stressful as so many activities are to be done during this time but people happily take this in their stride. Everyone is in a holiday mood and wants their home to look its best and communicate the festive spirit to others. Here are a few suggestions to easily give your home a stunning look and still allow you to save some time for the festivities during Christmas time.

Bows can create a magical atmosphere. Bunches of brightly colored bows brings merriment at any time, but especially at Christmas. Tie bows and ribbons wherever you like – stair railings, the back of chairs, around candlesticks – be creative! You can use the same traditional colors of green and red but try to harmonize the color scheme with the interior design of your home. It will look a bit boring if you only use the usual Christmas colors of red and green. Floral and checkered designs will add some spice to your decorations. A particularly elegant touch is to combine metallic colors like silver and gold with your color choices.

You can decorate railings, armoires, mirrors and the mantle with garlands of ribbons and bows. Buy good quality ribbons and bows so they last through several holiday seasons. Be sure to pack them up along with your other decorations and keep them for the next year.

Now it is the most exciting part for everyone – decorating the Christmas tree. First put the strings of lights on the tree. Then hang your ornaments on the tree in such a way that they are lit properly so they look even more bright and sparkling. When Christmas lights reflect off all the Christmas decorations the tree looks absolutely enchanting!

Everything should be special for Christmas. During the Christmas dinner, spread tableware which is meant to be used for Christmas. You can collect these items from off-season sales. It’s not necessary that you have to buy everything at full price during Christmas. Collect your tableware bit by bit and by the end of the year you will be ready with a huge collection for Christmas festivities.

Christmas decorations are not quite complete without Christmas candles. Candlelight creates a romantic and peaceful atmosphere in your home. This is the time to dine in a candlelit room sitting beside the fireplace. Candles can make you feel the spirit of the holiday season and they will also add something extra special to your Christmas home d

Enchanting Christmas Picture Frame Ideas You Can Do at Home

Every year it’s the same old decorations that come out of the box. We take them out the box of Christmas decorations, clean them up and place them out for display. At the end of season, back they go. Some may be looking a little tired. Decide on a change this year. Retire or restore some of these oldies (but goodies) and opt for some of these enchanting Christmas picture frame ideas. Okay, so some of us are emotionally attached to our decorations just the way they are and parting with them would bring undue stress. That’s fine. But, what’s terrific about these ideas is that some of them use your old decorations! Be proud of yourself because now you’re stepping into the “vintage” arena of design. Now that’s a step, isn’t it?

Does your manger display need a paint job? Preserve the life of your favorite scene by placing these figurines in a partitioned shadow box picture frame. Perform some quick touch ups with paint from a local craft store and let dry. Glue or tape your figurines so they don’t move when you move the box.

Preserve your smaller Christmas wreath by setting it in a picture frame. Whether you’re using natural or artificial materials, the beauty of your wreath can be viewed for many years to come. You might consider using a clear lacquer spray to encourage the pine needles to stay put.

Create a poinsettia print display using a picture frame. The pressed and dried leaves and colorful bracts of the poinsettia are lovely when accented with gold and silver colors. Consider using ribbons, braided cords or even paper and then, for a sparkling effect, try applying a glitter glue spray to the dried leaves.

Changing out your regular ones for glass picture frames will help to create your winter wonderland effect. Etched glass and frosted glass picture frames work well with almost anything. They will soften any effects that darker and bolder colored picture frames may have. This will help to create a wispy, whimsical effect of a snowy Christmas and may also contribute some sparkle when they catch the light.

Are you a Christmas card saver? A montage of Christmas cards set in a picture frame will add a distinctive and intimate touch to your home décor. Cut and paste your favorite parts of the card onto the backboard of a picture frame. If you’re not ready to put a scissors to your card just yet, consider placing the cards within a photo album.

Make use of your mistletoe all year long. Preserve your mistletoe with glycerin and set it in a gold colored or other colorfully designed picture frame. Learn how to preserve foliage with glycerin before attempting this. Another important factor to note is to be ready for kisses all year long!

Take a family photo every Christmas and display proudly on your wall during the holiday season. Consider using the glass frames mentioned above, but for an added effect, consider using glass picture frames that are decorated with metal artwork. The metal artwork adds a more dramatic effect to your family photos that will surely draw attention at family gatherings.

What makes these ideas great is that your memorabilia are preserved. The picture frames can be easily stored and retrieved. They can also remain as a part of your home décor well past the holiday season. Have fun making your enchanting home décor!

It is not easy to select the Christmas gift that will please to eveyone: we never know if the gift will be appreciated by its recipient.

How many times have you received a gift that is never emerged out of the cupboard in which you putted it?

I myself received hundreds of gifts that I do not use, especially at Christmas Time. And I do not mention the decorative objects, that I do not know what to do with because they do not match the decoration of my house or simply because I have no place to put them on.

This year, try to give useful and/or consumable Christmas gifts. By giving something useful and consumable such as skin care products or food products, you are sure that your gift will be appreciated.

Christmas gift baskets are the solution.

Unfortunately, ready-made gift baskets can be expensive and we sometimes have to spend a lot of money to buy them without being sure that all the contained products will please.

So, what about a homemade Christmas gift basket? It is an excellent way to save money on the cost of the basket and products included. You even do not have to buy the basket.

Gift baskets can be easily made out of wooden boxes, briefcases made of leather or vinyl, or shoeboxes nicely decorated…

If the products you plan to include in the basket are too expensive, you will be able to reduce their number and save more money.

Here are some Christmas gift basket ideas.

The developers of the first two games of Home Sweet Home series have given us a terrific gift for winter holidays – Home Sweet Home Christmas Edition! This new release will provide you another portion of interior design fun – with exciting new features and really festive spirit!

Think you are a seasoned interior designer? Here is a true challenge!

The Town of Good Tidings has always been a great place to live in. But now the citizens somehow feel that no so long before Christmas the Christmas cheer has left their town, and they definitely need help in bringing it back. But Santa is extremely busy these days preparing toys on the North Pole. Who else can help the unhappy inhabitants of Good Tidings restore their Christmas spirit? Santa has a solution! Why not call Dee Ziner and her faithful team of Bill Dur, Goran, Brian and Liz? They are real professionals and only they are able to get the town ready for holidays in the shortest time. Ready to test yourself?

Then welcome to your first client. On the whole everything is like in the first two parts – you listen to the client’s request and try to fulfill it as fully, as you can, taking into consideration your budget. A great feature here is that some clients don’t just describe what they want, in proze, poetry or even in the form of Christmas carols, but even give you pictures of their dream rooms. What about creating a living room reminding a doll house or even a pudding? And, besides client Satisfaction Meter, your budget and minimum number of items to be used, there is the Christmas Cheer Meter, which should also be full before you can proceed to the building phase. To fill the Christmas Cheer Meter, as you might guess, you need to add Christmas-themed items to the room. And those are plentiful – from Christmas trees, garlands and wraths to Christmas chestnuts and reindeers. And yes, in this version you are not limited to living rooms or baths, so the tasks are much more diverse than in the previous ones.

In the building phase everything is also very much the same as before, but much more balanced. Now you don’t have to replay each level several times, as time limits are much more realistic. Christmas features are also present, for example, all the workers look like Santa’s elves – with sharp ears and red hats. Besides, to restore their stamina they don’t use coffee anymore – they prefer eggnog. And the greatest thing – Carol-oke. Didn’t you know that your workers are also singers? Now you can set one of them to sing while others will work with double energy!

And I should also speak about the space for your creativity – your own house. as in previous releases, you can design it absolutely as you wish, using available items. And new items are unlocked depending on how successfully you complete projects for your clients. Here you can apply all your designer talent to five rooms – Living room, Kitchen, Bathroom, Office and Basement. Provided that you can take pictures of all rooms you create and change rooms layout, your creative opportunities are practically inexhaustible!

But enough words. Home Sweet Home Christmas Edition is definitely worth your attention – how will your dream house look like?

Organizing Your Home for the Christmas Season

The holiday season is swiftly approaching, bringing with it great fun and family events. As you are preparing for this great season, it is important to plan accordingly. The friends and family you invite into your home bring plenty of warmth and cheer, but can also create quite a mess. For this reason, organizing your home for the Christmas season is very important, to anyone who wishes their home to stay as clean as the freshly fallen snow outside.

Organizing your home entails assembling a good number of storage containers for everything from sugar cookies to Christmas lights and ornaments. The tree can create a mess as well, and if you choose an artificial tree, it will also need to be stored. When it comes to getting yourself and your home ready for this Christmas season, challenges abound. Getting started early, even before Thanksgiving, is a good way to thwart the coming stress of December.

While one may not want to start decorating until after Thanksgiving, there is no real reason to not prepare for decoration. This is where organization can become an issue. The first thing you need to do is to begin cleaning your entire house. All of your non-seasonal knick-knacks need to go. Throw rugs and blankets may need to be replaced as well.

Boxes of all sizes are invaluable for holiday storage and organization. This starts with storing your non-holiday items in order to make room for the Christmas tree and more. Label the boxes by room, and begin filling them up with the items that you are getting replacing. When a box is full move it into storage. Once your home is thoroughly desolate and devoid of decorative flair you can begin to think of your Christmas decorations.

Getting your actual decorations out can be a major hassle. This is the year to overhaul your storage system. Get rid of those cardboard boxes and replace them with plastic containers. Plastic is sturdier, stacks more easily, protects your items better and can simplify your storage process. Furthermore, plastic containers have been tweaked to fit any purpose. Many boxes can easily fit up to sixteen ornaments in safe individual compartments. The boxes come in three snap together trays that can, when put together, can safely store twenty-seven or twenty-eight ornaments. You no longer have to worry about losing precious keepsakes when you store your ornaments. Furthermore, you can avoid the waste of time that comes with wrapping ornaments in layer after layer of newspaper. These simple boxes provide perfect protection for all of your tree trimmings. They also can work wonderfully to stow bows, ribbons and other wrapping accessories.

Another frequent organizational nightmare associated with preparing for the Christmas season is dealing with all of the wrapping paper and ribbon. Keeping these items stored without damage can be a significant challenge. It’s a good idea to store all your gift-wrapping supplies in one location. Hang them on a door for storage, so they don’t get crushed. This can help you keep the rest of your house organized for Christmas.

A final crucial step for getting your house organized for Christmas is to prepare your kitchen. The Christmas holiday season can easily be referred to as baking season, and if you plan on doing a lot of work in your kitchen, then you better be ready. Forget your spring cleaning routine, now is the time to get that kitchen cleaned out. Get your spice rack organized, move those pots to the most accessible location, and get your appliances reorganized to fit your baking needs. For most of the year your kitchen should be organized to meet your day to day needs. But during the holidays, your day to day necessities are thrown aside. Rather then focusing on the meat and potatoes of mealtime you may find yourself emphasizing the cookies and cakes during this time of year. One of the largest organizational disasters that come along with Christmas is trying to work around a kitchen that is not built for baking. You need to rework this room, or your sanity is going to be tested throughout the entire season.

Getting ready for the Christmas holiday season should start just before Thanksgiving. Even if you are one who refuses to decorate until after Thanksgiving, there is work to be done and the benefits can be very rewarding. Begin your organizational work now, and you can be well on your way to a more relaxed holiday season around the house or apartment. However, if you procrastinate, things can quickly become quite hectic and stressful. Invest in the proper storage materials, deal with the problem of wrapping paper and overhaul your kitchen. These steps should set you well on your way to a happy and peaceful Christmas holiday season.
